Is PMI membership mandatory to apply for the PMP certification?

Is it mandatory to be a PMI member while applying for the PMP exam?. Should one remain as a PMI member to maintain the PMP Credential?

PMI membership is not mandatory for applying for PMP certification. PMI membership is not mandatory for retaining the PMP certification as well. However, by bccoming a PMI member one can enjoy certain benefits like discounts for certification, free access to standards and reading material etc.
